Upgraded to Drupal 5.2 (security and bugfixes release)

Just updated to Drupal 5.2, but unfortunately not without problems. I didn't respect the advice from the upgrade guide to disable the clean url's so I got 404 (not found) codes for everything except the front page.

If this ever happens to you go to yoursite.com/?q=admin/settings/clean-urls and disable the clean urls. After that copy a clean settings.php file to your sites/default folder, modify the database and base url settings in it and run update.php. Log in through yoursite.com/?q=user and re-enable the clean urls. Now everything should be fine.

Hope this helps if someone has similar problems!

Joomla 1.5 Beta 2 is out now

Joomla 1.5 Beta 2, dubbed the "Red Barchetta", has been launched today. From the Joomla announcement:

With today's release of Joomla! 1.5 Beta-2, we're shifting gears into turbo mode; an entirely re-factored core, internationalisation, FTP layering, next-generation API and framework that's so flexible and powerful and, of course, a designer's dream for unparalleled templating flexibility.

The difference between our current 1.0.12 and the forthcoming 1.5 Beta-2 are not easy to describe, but in essence Joomla! 1.0.x was based upon the Mambo codebase, whereas Joomla! 1.5 has been completely rewritten from scratch.

It sounds interesting and I'll test it as soon as possible. When the Release Candidates will be out I'll update the current Joomla review if there are any major changes.

Die Welt using Drupal

When big shots like Die Welt and MTV UK start using Open Source projects it gives credibility to more and more people that OS is actually viable as a commercial solution. Die Welt recently launched Debatte.welt.de, a community site based on Drupal where users and journalists can debate with each other on various matters.

Here is a short interview with Christian Ruhnau, the Debatte.welt.de project leader.
