Lussumo Filebrowser Review
One aspect of the content management world that is, at least in my opinion, neglected too much is document/file management. Although we have modern content management systems almost all of these have no built-in document management capabilities like Drupal and Wordpress, or limited functionality like Joomla's Media Manager.
Today we'll be testing the Lussumo Filebrowser version 1.3.4.
Although Lussumo has limited capabilities (a glaring omission is a file uploader) it is a good option for somebody who wants a simple image gallery that can also handle text files as well as other extensions, as long as they're not scripts (php, asp or cfm files).
Here are some of Lussumo's features:
- Thumbnailing - the script generates (on command) thumbnails for most image file types.
- Inline image viewer which resizes images to screen size (full size can be also accessed).
- File viewer - click on a file and if it's in text or html format the script will display the contents in a frame.
- Embedding of audio files - listen before downloading.
Cons of the Lussumo browser:
- No file upload - this is a big no-no from my point of view.
- No edit/delete/create files or directories.
Like I said above, this script is very nice if you need a quick and dirty image gallery - otherwise I'd suggest trying another script. I've rated it a 6 out of 10 because it does what it does the way it should and because it's easy to install and use.
