The Best Open Source Content Management System

Content management systems or CMS for short are perfect for businesses or individuals to have their own website. These systems were created to make it easy for people to be able to create and publish their own websites, blogs, forums, etc, and display them to the public. The best open source content management system for you will depend on what type of functions you need and what you want it to look like. Here is a rundown of a few of the best.

WordPress:

WordPress is the one I prefer and maybe the most popular choice to date. The WordPress platform was first started as a blog but can really be designed and created to look like whatever you want. WordPress gives you widget options on the sidebar, footer and header and will also let you customize just about anything.

Drupal:

Drupal is largely growing to be one of the most used open source content management systems online. The source code is written in PHP and can be used for individual blogs as well as large, complex looking corporate websites.

Joomla:

Joomla is also written in PHP code and uses the MySQL database systems much like WordPress. It works great for portfolio type websites as well as personal blogs, polling pages, news pages and search. It is one of the best systems for publishing content whether it be video, pictures or just words.

This is just a brief look into what I consider to be the best open source content management system around today.
